Reverend Jeremiah Wright's now infamous declaration, "God damn America," was quoted out of context during the 2008 presidential election cycle. What was missed by many was that Wright was calling attention to the fact we cannot claim to uphold American ideology while we demonstrate behavior that contradicts those same principles. Yet, today - more than ever - that's exactly what we see from many public figures as they rally the uninformed by playing on emotionalism and blind nationalism. I understood exactly what Wright was referencing when he made his statement and it's in acknowledgement of that I created my own "goddam America Award." These awards are part of the main blog here, but I've put links on this page to all of them so those who are interested can more easily access them.
